I saw this article about how the City of Detroit is forcing towing companies to bring abandoned vehicles back to the city impound lot instead of the towing companies private lot. The towing companies are complaining about a loss in revenue.
I know the city is trying to add fairness into the equation for citizens but the need to consider key point:
If the towing companies do not make money they will not be there to serve the public

This of course will require the city to spend more money to do what the towing companies once did. In the long run the taxpayers will probably pay more. Maybe a better solution would be just to have a set figure tha everyone has to church for cars brought to private impound lots. This way the towing companies can still make some money and the city can have some control over what citizens pay after a tow
