Sometimes It Is Better For the Tower To Walk Away From A Tow

Walk Away…

I have another report about a Florida towman who shot and killed a man in an altercation involving the man’s car being hooked up for a tow. I do not know all the facts, but I know this.

Walk Away..

Write down the plate, photograph it if possible, and try to collect
Later. Killing a man and putting yourself at the mercy of the general public in a jury trial is not worth the risk of prison time..and there is an excellent chance the jury will be filled with people with a negative image of towmen.

Walk Away..There will be hundreds of tows and towing jobs where you never get a scratch

From wrecked to blessed: Mom explains tow truck's inspiring message - El Paso Times

From wrecked to blessed: Mom explains tow truck's inspiring message

For Adrian Martinez, it's sometimes difficult to carry on a social conversation, especially if he does not know you.

But when you talk about his two favorite things -- the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Lakers -- his face lights up and the words flow like the follow-through on a Kobe Bryant jump shot.

"Kobe Bryant is my favorite player," Adrian said. "I like Michael Vick, too. He's a really good quarterback."
Adrian, a 15-year-old freshman at Canutillo High School, does not shy away from his admiration of the Philadelphia Eagles.

His room is painted midnight green in honor of his favorite NFL team. The walls are dotted with Eagles pendants, clocks and posters.

Like her son, Lilly Davila is not afraid to show her love for the things dear to her heart.
"I'm very proud to have an autistic child," Lilly Davila said of Adrian. "I feel totally blessed to call myself his mother."

Lilly Davila does not hide the fact that Adrian has autism. Matter of fact, Davila and her husband Luis have painted the autism awareness decal on the hood of the tow truck they own to raise awareness.

"We did it because not a lot of people understand what autism is," she said. "I get a lot of calls from people who say how proud they are because we have the autism awareness sticker on the truck. Sometimes they stop our drivers and tell them thank you for promoting autism awareness."

City goes after tow-company license | 2011-12-20 | Indianapolis Business Journal | IBJ.com

IBJ Staff

Indianapolis is moving to revoke the license of a prominent local towing company that officials say has violated local ordinances and elicited more than two dozen consumer complaints.

The city’s Department of Code Enforcement on Monday issued a hearing notice to Interstate/Delaware and South Towing for license revocation or suspension.

According to the city, the company, which has locations downtown on Delaware Street and on Kitley Road on the city’s east side, has not upheld requirements to post signage and to get approval from parking lot owners or authorized agents before towing vehicles. The firm received a citation for inadequate signage in late October.

Interstate/Delaware and South’s general manager, Brian Meyer, could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning.

Earlier this year, the City-County Council approved regulations to prevent companies from engaging in predatory towing practices. The new rules include caps for towing and storage fees, requirements that towing companies accept cash and credit-card payments, and 24/7 access to towed vehicles.

Driving A Tow Truck Is STILL Dangerous..

Tow truck driver shot in foot by gunman who didn't have parking permit

By Kyle Feldscher

A tow truck driver was shot in the foot early Tuesday by a man who was upset that his vehicle had been towed from an apartment complex because he didn't have a parking permit, police said.
Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Derrick Jackson said deputies responded to a call of shots fired at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard.

Police found that a 31-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident and employee of Discount Towing had been struck once in the foot and the suspect had fled, Jackson said.

Deputies had responded to the area earlier in the night while the employees were towing the suspect's car, Jackson said. The suspect did not have a parking pass for the complex and was upset that his car was being towed, Jackson said.

"Tow truck drivers get this all the time," Jackson said. "It's common practice for them to quickly call us before things escalate."

It wasn't until the employees came back to the complex to check if there were any other cars that needed to be taken from the area that trouble started, Jackson said.

Tow Truck Company Benefits from Illegal Activity

This story adds new meaning to the term crime pays..:)

KRGV.com
Reported by: Joe Augustine

Drug and human traffickers aren't alone in cashing in on smuggling operations in the Valley.

The owner of a towing company says he counts on smugglers ditching or wrecking cars to support his bottom line. Breaking the law means big business for tow truck operators in the Valley.

Lorenzo Gonzalez owns Ventura’s Towing in Pharr. He says his best customers are local police. That's where the majority of his cash flow comes from.

“Police departments, I'd say about 67 percent,” says Gonzalez.

Gonzalez says the number of police calls goes up and down. His drivers can count on a steady stream of business from Valley smugglers.

“I've gone over to the river to tow pickup trucks that they leave in the river, the ones that carry drugs,” says Gonzalez.

Every month, Ventura’s drivers tow 15 to 20 cars used for hauling drugs or illegal immigrants.
